Give myself a pat on the back. I finished another knit project. What is that three in the past year.lol This is the second scarf that I have knitted with the hand spun Apple Blossom fiber that I purchased from Wildcraft. I doubled stranded this with some hand spun whiter Merino. It's just a simple garter stitch pattern. It was quick and easy. That's all that I have of the Apple Blossom. I do still have the Coast colorway fiber that I purchased from Wildcraft and am anxious to spin this lovely fiber.
Looks like I've been tagged.Thank you, Jan for thinking of me. My friend Jan from Jan's Musings is the tagger. I'm supposed to list eight things about myself and then tag others. Lately when I get tagged I do the list and then I choose the required number of blogs to tag except I don't usually tag them. I list their sites so that you can visit and see their nice blogs.
1. I love Burt's Bees lip balm. Can't do without.
2. My favorite colors are blue, pink and yellow.
3. I despise hot and humid summers.
4. I love cold winters.
5. I'm attempting to learn how to quilt.
6. I love to spin fiber.
7. I love color.
8. I love to drink water.
Below are some new blogs that I have discovered. Some of them are absolutely enchanting.
Some are French and I don't speak French. Their pictures say it all. It's interesting to see how much we have in common even though we don't speak the same language.
I think this new interest in quilting has also brought an interest in the old and vintage.

Please do stop by and visit these blogs. I don't think you will be disappointed.
This is some lovely floral fabric that jumped into my shopping bag the other day. Don't know what I will do with it. I just enjoy looking at the colors.

This is a foot stool that belonged to my great Aunt Carrie. I've had it in my "wool room" for some time. I decided that it had been too dreary for too long. I found this lovely dragonfly fabric on sale at Hobby Lobby. I thought it would look nice on the foot stool. There is enough left over that I can cover my sewing machine stool that also once belonged to my great Aunt Carrie. She had a since of humor and I think she would like this bold, bright fabric.

I've also been drum carding . I'm a bit behind in the Ditty Batt category in my Etsy shop and need to get busy carding. I love the way you can take several fibers and various colors, run them through the carder and end up with something entirely different. I chose a white BFL, purple Merino, pink Merino and some generic blue and pink streaked wool. I'm going to call the finished product Heathered Lavender.
Before.
After.

After.

Yesterday I loaded up the car with the backing, cotton batting and quilt top that my Memaw made and headed to the church. This project is too large to spread out on my dinning room table and I wanted to pin baste the "sandwich" so that I could get started on the hand stitching of the quilt. The church has some large tables great for pin basting. I don't think that I would be doing this if the quilt top hadn't been started by Memaw. I truly loved her and miss her very much. That's why it's so important to me that I be the one that finishes the quilt. One thing I learned from spinning and knitting is that I like the process. The end result is important but it's the process that I really enjoy. I could be very content with just knitting and spinning all the time. It doesn't bother me if I make a mistake in my knitting and have to rip it out and start all over. I'm afraid that I don't feel that way about quilting. I love the end result but not the process of getting there. In time that may change. I love the beautiful colors of quilts and I greatly admire quilters. I have developed a great appreciation for the work they do on quilts. It is not easy. I wonder how on earth our ancestors quilted without all the fancy quilting gadgets that we have that help us to quilt.

Must smooth out those wrinkles.

Ready to pin.

Almost finished.
Whew ! Finished. A pin basted quilt and an achy breaky back to go with it. See what I mean about the large tables at the church. BTW, If any of quilters out there recognize this pattern please let me know the name. I haven't been able to find the pattern in any quilt books so far.

The Peace Of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.
I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting
with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the
world, and am free.
Wendell Berry
Enjoy life.

You may have only finished 3 knitting projects, but after looking at you blog, I certainly wouldn't call you a slacker. You have been pretty busy with lots of fibery goodness. Your colorful photos always make me happy!
Wow you've been busy Phyllis! I love the scarf, the white of the merino suits those pinks and greens perfectly, and it looks really cosy.
Wow! Amazing stuff. All of it. That wool is beautiful too...
Love the colour of the scarf. And that carded fleece - yumm!
Hi Phyllis - love all the photos today well done on the scarf ;) you know i could quite easily spin all year and never make anything with my yarn too ;)
love the quilt will ask my sister the quilter if she knows the name as im sure she might :)
You have been a busy girl! I love the beautiful magnolia blossom at the top of your blog. Along with all the other good stuff you've posted, I especially like the poem in today's post. Will you be at LB's Roc Day? I'm planning to go and hope to see you there.
You are so talented. The scarf is beautiful, with lovely wool. The quilt laid out at Church is stunning. And what a lovely poem to finish with. I like the fabric that jumped into your bag!
First, lovely scarf, the fabric for the footstool is after my own heart. Your batting makes me think I need to start spinning.
Wow the quilt is looking great. That will be quite a labor. Good luck with it, I am not much of a quilter, and only quilted a very small piece by hand.

Nice
Those vintage fabrics in the quilt are fabulous! A litttle old and a little new ... you've caught the fabric bug!
Lots of lovely eye candy in your blog as usual Phyllis. I really enjoy my visits here. Following your quilting adventures with great interest. The big one on the church table is shaping up nicely..lol. Had to laugh at your comment about hot and humid summers. Same here - hate intense heat.
Oh that Magnolia - could do with smellovision! That batt is soo pretty (could also do with fondlevision!)
I agree with you about the whole process v product thing - for me process is most important (hence I love spinning best). Sometimes the product can be enough to get you through though, and that quilt is definitely a worthy cause - how wonderful is that - cheering you on from over here.
